How we design determines what we design.  To prioritize the pedestrian experience, we need a design process that feeds us a robust representation of that experience.  The amount of geometry used by this design concept offered a useful stress test for dynamic lighting in real-time visualization.  Dynamic lighting is not pre-rendered, meaning time of day can be changed instantly.  Day-time scenes and night lighting scenes can be painlessly switched within the same model.


The challenge of context is that obviously a render of the design geometry cannot simply be stitched into a context photo, since both are constantly changing.  If context modeling beyond grey boxes is needed, and brute-force manual modeling/texturing of context assets is not an option, then a better solution is needed.  The video below demonstrates photogrammetry as that better solution.

#1 of 2 videos.  For a design process using real-time visualization, ideally a photogrammetric context model would begin production as early in the life of a project as possible.  After the context model is "in-hand", the design geometry can be dropped into context and visualized quickly and painlessly at any intermediate stage of the design that would benefit from an in-context review.  This first video is showing the level of deliverable possible for the quickest version of a real-time design review -- after import to the visualization engine all of the geometry except for glass is shown with a default material.


A residential project in a mature neighbourhood provides a challenging demonstration for photogrammetric context capture due the complex geometry resulting from a mature landscape with highly variable separate houses.  The geometry involved in most urban settings, by contrast, would typically involve simpler geometry.
